Pets, Polls, and Pawsitively Perfect Costumes
Inside Ella’s Spooktacular Resident Costume Contest
If you’ve ever wondered what happens when you mix a close-knit apartment community with a healthy dose of Halloween spirit and a whole lot of pet costumes, wonder no more. At Ella in Madison’s Eken Park neighborhood, we like our apartments cozy, our community active, and our contests a little howl-o-weeny.
This October, we invited our residents to participate in a private, pet-friendly costume contest hosted in our residents-only group. It wasn’t just a photo op (though yes, we are now emotionally attached to several dressed-up animals). It was a vote-driven showdown, complete with bragging rights and gift cards to Mounds Pet Supply on the line.
The results? A two-way tie for first place that left us howling with laughter and joy.

FIRST PLACE (TIE)
- Frankendog: This golden retriever strutted into our hearts with red bandaged paws, eyelashes, and the commitment of a seasoned Halloween pro. Dr. Frankenstein would be proud.
- Roast Beast: Dressed as a full Thanksgiving turkey (drumsticks and all), this cat somehow made food costumes look... dignified. We’re still laughing.

HONORABLE MENTION
- Narwhal Cutie: A Shih Tzu transformed into the most adorable aquatic unicorn you’ve ever seen. Bonus points for the sleepy-but-fashionable attitude.
